Flow chair is truly great thanks to its flawless design. The sophisticated design lovers will appreciate the construction of Flow where no screws or metal joints were used. The chairs are slim, elegant and extremely light both in terms of looks and in terms of weight. The minimalist Flow chair does not contain unnecessary details. The excellent backrest angle and height fit every back and it is the main gratification of the Flow design that will be felt by anyone who tries the chair. Design: Jakob Berg (Denmark) The famous designer Jakob Berg (1958-2008) was born in Denmark. He used uncountable inspiration sources for his furniture design. Design is always a part of life for Jacob Berg. It was important to Jacob Berg creating furniture with pretty shapes and a minimum of material, being functional and optimal simultaneously. Jakob Berg put much love into Flow chair design and there is a beautiful heritage left. “My thoughts are always filled with forms and ideas. The Danish architect Hans J Wegner is best known for his high quality chairs made from solid wood. But he was also fascinated by molded plywood, and designed a long range of pieces made from this at the time highly innovative material. Here’s some more or less successful examples. ⠀ 🪑 A sketch made in 1948 for the ‘International competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design’ arranged by MoMA. Didn’t win any price and wasn’t put into production. 🪑 The ‘FH1936’ was designed by Wegner in 1948 for Fritz Hansen and was a highly simplified version of the competition chair. The complicated armrests were removed and the shell split in two. 🪑 In 1949 Wegner made a three-piece shell chair, obviously inspired by some of the prototypes developed by the Eameses. It never reached serial production. 🪑 The ‘CH22’ (designed in 1950) was one of the first chairs Wegner developed for Carl Hansen. It’s a more traditional take on the shell chair. 🪑 Wegner’s most iconic shell chair was developed for Johannes Hansen in 1963. It was way too complicated (and not least expensive) to produce, and only small numbers were made. Nowadays it’s in production by Carl Hansen, but that’s another story… Feel free to ask us any questions in the comment section below! This film shows a contemporary version of Marcel Breuer’s Short Chair being made at the Isokon Plus workshop, London. A two part (concave and convex) mould is used to form the chair’s seat. Glued, cross-grained veneers are laid between the two parts which are then held together under pressure in a press. Once the glue has set, the seat is removed from the mould, ready for trimming and finishing. Hans J. Wegner designed the Shell Chair in 1963 for the annual Furniture Guild Exhibition in Copenhagen. While some critics loved the avantgarde design, the general public was reluctant to accept the chair's bold and different design. When Carl Hansen & Søn re-introduced the chair in 1998, it immediately won several design awards - as well as broad public appeal. Another good example of Wegner being way ahead of his time. 🤍

The DCM (Dining Chair Metal) was the first eames furniture design to generate the 'Eames Chair' tag. Part of a group of four plywood variants released to the marketplace in 1946, the DCM accounted for around 75% of all sales from these designs. Perhaps part of its appeal was that, despite using a new material in the design, it was not a radical change towards the future, but more of a first tentative step. Our video showcases a very early Evans made DCM from 1946. Herman Miller took over distribution a year later and then full production from 1949. You can learn the history of the DCM chair on our dedicated Eames wiki page on the link found here: 🤍

The cantilevered cane and chrome chair is all over the place: in trendy homes, on movies and tv sets, even tattooed on people's bodies. But Instagram’s favorite chair is not exactly new. It was designed nearly 100 years ago by an architect named Marcel Breuer, while he was a student at the Bauhaus, the famed German art school. This somewhat unassuming two-legged chair is the realization of a manifestos-worth of utopian ideals about design and functionality. (1/2" Plywood Vs. 3/4" PlywoodWhen to Use) Many new woodworkers and DIYers rush to use 3/4" plywood for any small project. But, in many cases, 3/4" plywood is overkill! This short video from The Honest Carpenter will show you a better alternative for many DIY projects1/2" plywood! 1/2" plywood comes in nearly every variety that 3/4" plywood does. It's extremely strong and stable. Many people seem to avoid 1/2" plywood on the assumption that it's weak. But, it has many of the same properties as 3/4" plywood. (3/4" is a much more common measurement for wood in generalthis may be one of the reasons that people assume that they need to purchase 3/4" plywood.) BENEFITS OF 1/2" PLYWOOD: It's lighter (by almost 20 lbs. per sheet) It's cheaper (by $10-12 on overage per sheet) It's easier on tools It produces less sawdust It is easier to handle and manipulate It has an edge just wide enough to be hit with brads and trim nails SITUATIONS WHERE 3/4" PLYWOOD IS PREFERRED: Anything that will be walked on Anything that will be hit hard with tools Anything that will be roughly handled. TIPS FOR WORKING WITH 1/2" PLYWOOD: Try not to span it more than 24" unsupported in any direction Get support directly beneath the edges Use glue when bonding pieces Use face frames for additional support on trim projects Thanks for watching! This week I'll show you how to make a great looking chair, using limited tools only! With only a drill and a jigsaw! Make sure to Subscribe (and ring the bell!): 🤍 Using the cutout templates there’s no measuring required and no complicated angled cuts. Just cut out the paper templates, glue them on to the wood, and cut out the pieces with the jigsaw. I used 18mm birch ply for the frame and the bend jigs. 4mm ply laminated in two layers for the seat and the backrest. And 25mm (1”) broomsticks for the legs. Buy the plans here: 🤍 Check out my brand new Merchandise store: 🤍 Support me on Patreon: 🤍 Follow me on Instagram for more pictures and stories along the way: 🤍 The challenge was posted by Nicholas Baker on Instagram: 🤍 Drill and jigsaw I used: Drill: 🤍 Jigsaw: 🤍 Some of my other favorite tools: 3d printer: 🤍 Orbital sander: 🤍 Track saw: 🤍 Impact driver: 🤍 All my music is from Epidemic - Get a free 30-day trial here! 🤍 Thank you for Watching!
