However, as impressive as that beautiful and bright display is, can the new Mi Band 7 reliably measure and track your health metrics? Over the last few days I have done different scientific tests on this new Mi Band 7, and I found it seems to be good at some things, but also struggles with some specific measurements. Now, in other videos I have shown that the previous generation, the Mi Band 6, was pretty bad when it was launched, but it improved quite drastically with firmware updates. Let’s see if this new Mi Band 7 also needs some time to get good performance, or if it is already quite good from the start. In this video, I will do some initial scientific testing of the heart rate measurements, sleep tracking, oxygen saturation measurements and step counting of the Mi Band 7. Now, this is a first set of tests, as I just received the device this week, and a full scientific review will follow as I do more detailed tests over the next few weeks. The first thing you will notice about the new Mi Band is that it’s bigger, with a 1.62-inch Always-on AMOLED display compared to the 1.56-inch display of the Mi Band 6, which according to Xiaomi, increases the viewing area by 25%. However, the pixel density remains the same as before at 326 PPI. Xiaomi also created new icons, new effects, and restyled data visuals to go with this larger display. The Mi Band 7 is said to have 120 sports modes, and now has continuous blood oxygen monitoring and low SpO2 alerts. In addition, the Mi Band 7 also has all-day heart rate monitoring, sleep monitoring and also stress monitoring, which as you might know, I am generally quite skeptical of. The Mi Band 7 is water resistant up to 5 atmospheres, similar to the Mi Band 6, which means it can withstand water pressures equivalent to a depth of 50 meters. The main thing that is lacking is that it still doesn’t have built-in GPS. Xiaomi says that the Mi Band 7 has a battery life of 14 days with regular usage, however, I haven’t been able to validate this yet. Also, a lot of the more advanced features, like always on display, continuous SpO2 measurements and stress monitoring will drain the battery faster. It is a bit unclear what the band will sell for in the US and Europe, but it will probably be around 50 dollars. Now, I was able to connect the Mi Band 7 to two different apps on iOS: Mi Fitness and Zepp Life. I ended up using Zepp life, because that was the only way I was able to export my exercises to Strava. I had to do it indirectly though, by logging into the normal Zepp app with the same account.

Are these any good on the Mi Band 6? That’s what we’ll test in this video. Specifically, we’ll test the sleep tracking, oxygen saturation measurements and step counting. And, we’ll also summarize the heart rate testing from last week to provide a complete scientific overview of the Mi Band 6. And, to summarize, overall I am quite encouraged by the improvements of the Mi Band 6, though not all features are that accurate. With rumors of the Mi Band 7 being on the horizon, some of you might be waiting for this to be released. However, the performance changes of the Mi Band 6 actually show us that firmware updates months after releases are sometimes needed to get proper performance out of a watch, which might make the Mi Band 6 a more attractive purchase for some. To start with, the thing the Band 6 was worst at out of all health related features is sleep tracking. I tested that in several ways, the first is by checking if two Mi Band 6’s worn at the same time detect the same sleep stages. If the sleep tracking algorithm works well, it should give roughly the same results for two Mi Band 6’s. If the two watches are not consistent, that means that either the raw measurements themselves or the algorithm underneath is not very stable. For 3 nights, I wore one Mi Band 6 on my left arm and one on my right arm, both running the same firmware. Now, the fact that I wore one watch on the left and one on the right hand could introduce some differences in the movement data both watches record during sleep. However, this is something that a good sleep tracking algorithm should be able to deal with. If not, this means it is inherently unreliable at estimating your sleep stages. Let’s see if this is the case! Conclusions: Where I was quite negative about the Mi Band 6 when I tested it last year, it has won back a small place in my heart. It isn’t one of the best health or fitness trackers out there, but, for the price it is not bad at all. For 35 dollars you get a smartband that is pretty decent at most health tracking related functionalities, except of course for tracking your sleep stages. The SpO2 tracking seems pretty good, and so does the step counting. The heart rate tracking is OK, though not the best. Now, with the Mi Band 7 rumored to be released soon, it might be worth waiting for this. On the other hand, the Mi Band 6 is likely cheaper, and has more mature and developed firmware. It’s up to you to decide what to do, and of course I’ll be reviewing the Mi Band 7 as soon as I can get my hands on it. Reviewing the Xiaomi Band 7, a budget fitness tracker that packs plenty of premium smart band features and respectable health tools, one of the best at this price. The Xiaomi Band 7 also boasts Mi Fitness support and a massive, bold OLED display that's easy to read. Here's my verdict after a week of testing this fitness tracker, one of my favourites of 2022, vs Huawei, Oppo and others. Smart steps monitoring, heart rate monitoring and SPO2 shenanigans are just a few of this wrist rocket's tricks. You also get a PAI score for how hard you're working your heart, sleep and stress tracking and over 100 fitness routines (including, er, darts, chess and eSports). Battery life is good - the Xiaomi Smart Band 7 can survive four to five days between charges. Not the best at this budget price but certainly good enough. One of the greatest features of this tracker however is that big, crisp, colourful OLED screen. It's easy to read and a proper beauty.
