In this video, I will show you how to fix audio echo problems in OBS in 5 minutes by going into your Advanced Audio Settings and changing the parameters to where you can hear your gameplay and prevent your OBS broadcaster from encoding the audio twice. This simple fix was sorely needed for one of my most recent streams where the audio that was being captured with my Elgato Game Capture was being used twice in staggered delays causing an echo effect. Once this fix was made, the game audio returned to normal, and I was able to hear it as well. I will also cover another common issue for Echo and Audio delays caused by stream preview issues found on the Twitch broadcaster. Same applies on the YouTube LIVE Control Room, but the concept of how to fix these audio echo problems remains the same. OBS has several audio filters that can help remove background noise and keyboard sounds. Removing, or reducing the background noise in OBS is essential for streaming and recording, to ensure the best quality content possible. The first step is to ensure that your microphone has been set up properly inside OBS. The microphone options can be found in OBS settings under the audio tab. With your microphone set up you will be able to control it through the OBS audio mixer. The mixer has a slider that can be used to adjust your overall microphone volume. Lowering the mic volume to around 90 percent can instantly make a difference to your background noise. Lowering the volume can stop or reduce the distortion of the background noise, making them quieter. The gear icon next to the mic/aux track can be used to open the filter menu. Filters allow you to add additional effects that can greatly reduce background sounds from being picked up on stream. The noise suppression filter will suppress the microphone noise. While this will affect your vocals, the suppression will greatly reduce the intensity of background noise and keyboard sounds. Adding a noise gate filter can help remove humming and sounds that occur when you’re not talking. A noise gate will completely disable your microphone audio, until it surpasses a specified volume. This allows you to ensure that microphone only activates when you’re talking. To correctly setup the noise gate filter in OBS you will need to be able to see the audio mixer. Your adjustments made to the noise gate settings will change how the audio is picked up, and the mixer audio bar is a good indicator of this. When you talk the the audio bar should light up. However when aren’t talking there should be no audio being picked up. You will need to adjust the open noise gate level accordingly. The close threshold should be slightly lower than the open level. The close threshold is how low the volume needs to reach before the audio cuts out. This tutorial will show you how to separate audio tracks in OBS Studio. This method will allow you to split audio in OBS, with music, Discord and game sound all being on individual tracks. Separating audio tracks will allow you to record each application on their own track. This makes editing videos easier as you can edit each track separately. Additionally, splitting audio tracks in OBS is also useful for streaming. With each application split inside of OBS you can individually control their volume. Allowing you to customize the sound of your stream and fine-tune it as needed. With split audio tracks in OBS you can also control what is being herd on your VOD track much easier. This will allow you to choose what applications are saved to your past broadcast on Twitch. The best use for split OBS tracks is video recording. When editing a video with split audio tracks you can cut and mute individual sounds to ensure only the important sounds are being heard. This is particularly useful for gameplay videos, as someone in Discord may be talking during an intense moment. During the editing process you will then be able to mute the Discord call so the gameplay and microphone are the only audio being heard. Additionally, this allows you to mute any music that may be playing while you game as it will be on its own track. To seperate Discord, music, game, and microphone sound you will need to use application audio capture source. This source will allow you to capture the audio from a specified application. You will need to go through and add each application that you want to capture as their own source. By splitting the audio like this you can also apply filters to each source individually. Once all of your audio sources have been set up you will then need to setup your audio tracks in the advanced audio properties. This is where you select what audio capture devices are being heard on each track. DISCLAIMER: Everyone's system is different, and this may not help YOUR particular setup at all. And yes, this is my old audio setup (which is why is sounds kind of dull). This is also pretty old news now, and it's a specific type of fix. The basic cause of an echo is a feedback loop either created by a duplicate or how your audio board is configured. There are many answers to this query, but this one worked for me. Also, if you like the music and have never played a classic Final Fantasy, I would recommend playing one. This tutorial will teach you how to hear yourself speak in OBS. You can use this to check how your mic sounds with different settings, and the volume of it. You can also follow the same steps to listen to the OBS audio for any of your audio devices. To hear yourself speak in OBS you will need to open the advanced audio properties via the audio mixer. Here you will see all of the audio devices available in your current scene. FOpen the audio monitoring drop menu next to your microphone, and choose “Monitor Only”.
